Is It Biblical to Pray to Mary?

The answers is NO! No where in the Bible does it command us or gives us any instruction to pray to Mary or any person except God. The Bible instructs to pray directly to God, the Father in the name of Jesus. The worship of Mary is a heresy set forth by the Roman Catholic Church in the Council of Ephesus in 431 A.D. The Rosary was introduced by Peter the Hermit, in the year 1090 A.D. The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854 A.D. This is all an invention by the Roman Catholic Church and it is contrary to the Word of God.

Jesus taught us in the "Lord's Prayer" to pray directly to God.

"In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name" (Matt. 6:9).

"And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son" (John 14:13).

"And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you" (John 16:23).

Jesus never gave more honor or preference to Mary, His earthly mother than He would to any believer who would trust in Him.

Then one said to Him, “Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, seeking to speak with You.” But He answered and said to them one who told Him, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matt. 12:47-50).

And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:27-28).

Mary is privileged to be the chosen vessel to carry in her womb the Lord Jesus Christ. But she is no different from any other believer who puts his or her faith in Christ. Mary herself is tainted with original sin and she acknowledged her need of a Savior. She said:

"My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior" (Luke 1:46-47).

The first and second commandments clearly forbids any worship to any person except God alone.

“You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth”. (Exo. 20:3-4).

God is a jealous God and will not allow worship to any other.

"I am the Lord, that is My name; and My glory I will not give to another, nor My praise to carved images" (Isaiah 42:8).

Mary did not remain a perpetual virgin after the birth of Jesus but she had sons and daughters with Joseph.

"Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus" (Matt. 1:24-25).

When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” (Matt. 13:54-56).

Let us forsake idolatry and worship the true God.
